Occupy claims to fight capitalism by giving money to banks

The Occupy movement’s recent actions further underscore its bourgeois and reformist nature:
“Marking the third anniversary of the Occupy Wall Street movement, the group’s Strike Debt initiative announced Wednesday it has abolished $3.8 million worth of private student loan debt since January. It said it has been buying the debts for pennies on the dollar from debt collectors, and then simply forgiving that money rather than trying to collect it.
In total, the group spent a little more than $100,000 to purchase the $3.8 million in debt.” (1)
The majority of people in the Third World earn under 3 dollars a day. Hundreds of millions of people in the Third World don’t even have access to safe water. Imperialism imposes terror across the Third World: dictatorships, death squads, bombs. Slavery is still a reality in much of the Third World, often tied to the inability of poor people to pay their debts.
So, Occupy chooses to fight the system by paying off the debts of some of the wealthiest people in the world, First World students. People in the Third World can’t even afford education in many cases. Hundreds of millions of people in the Third World are still illiterate due to imperialist-imposed underdevelopment. Occupy is literally giving money to banks. Such is the stupidity of First World activism.
